Safety and Well-being
At William Levick Primary School we take all forms of safeguarding children seriously, giving it paramount importance. Below are some examples of just a number of ways we keep the children here safe and well. To find out more, or to seek any further help and advice, please do not hesitate to contact school.
William Levick Primary School is a secure site with fences around the perimeter. We have a single-entry system into school, which is operated by the Office Assistant, allowing for them to see who is being let into school before actually doing so. Once inside, we run all necessary checks dependent on the visitor and their business with school.
We have very robust policies, procedures and practices at William Levick, including Child Protection, behaviour and e-safety, which you can find under the same tab. E-safety also extends to the curriculum, where the children partake in lessons to raise their awareness of staying safe on the internet, mostly linked to Safer Internet Day. Other curriculum areas that support our teaching of safety and well-being are our Life Skills curriculum (and associated Social & Emotional Aspects of Learning materials), Circle Time, Philosophy 4 Children, plus additional links such as sessions delivered to Y5 & Y6 by the NSPCC and a Fire Service talk to Y2 and Y6 children each year.
We also take children’s emotional well-being very seriously and have a number of strategies and systems in school to also support this. This includes a ‘What’s On Your Mind’ box in every classroom, so that children can post any worries they have anonymously if they so wish, a friendship bench if children are feeling sad and upset at break times, a buddy system for the new Foundation Stage children with the Y6 children in school, Play Leaders to support children at lunchtimes, a very active effective School Council, with representatives from every year group and a very effective transition for the Y6s as they progress to Secondary School. From time to time, all children need additional help and support, so we also run a Positive Play programme in school for those children who need to access this.
