Our school curriculum comprises of the statutory requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum; the National Curriculum for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 and other aspects that we consider to be important in preparing our children for the future and the wider world.
In Foundation Stage, children are provided with a range of opportunities to achieve the Early Learning Goals. See the Foundation Stage class page for further details of the curriculum approaches in Foundation Stage.
In Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 we deliver discrete English and Maths lessons to ensure coverage of all aspects of the National Curriculum.
English lessons follow a reading through to writing approach; children analyse a text type and identify key features of the text type before developing the skills to be able to write in the style.
In order to meet the requirements of the new National Curriculum for English children also have a weekly GAPS lesson (Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling).
In every class there is a daily reading session. During this session children are grouped according to reading ability and will undertake a range of reading activities during the week. These activities may include: A focused guided reading session with a teacher / other adult; spelling activity; reading comprehension; opportunity to read a text of their own choice; reading materials related to their class topic / theme; reading School News and listening to recordings of stories / poetry on CD.
Children in Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 have a daily phonics lesson to develop skills to support their reading and writing. To support us in planning and delivering phonics lessons we use resources from Phonics Play, Letters and Sounds and Jolly Phonics.

The school follows the Derbyshire Agreed Syllabus for its Religious Education programme. This provides children with the knowledge and understanding of the World's major religions. It is hoped that through our RE curriculum children will develop a tolerance and acceptance of people from all cultures and backgrounds.
Our Life Skills programme comprises of a range of opportunities for children to explore social, emotional and moral aspects. We provide opportunity for children to explore the school values and learn a range of skills to equip them to deal with life situations that they may encounter. We explore aspects of citizenship and develop children's understanding of the wider world and help them develop the skills to be outstanding, well-rounded citizens.

Pupils understand routines in class and around the school and play harmoniously together. Ofsted report
